USTADH ABDUS SHAKUR BROOKS

Abdus Shakur Brooks is a Canadian from Toronto who converted to Islam in 1998. In 2000 he began his correspondence in traditional studies with a learned Hanafi scholar. In 2003 he traveled to the famous school Mazharatul-Uloom in India where he spent a short period of time. He then decided to travel to Egypt where he has been carrying out his studies continually mainly in Maliki fiqh and Arabic grammar for the past five years. In Maliki fiqh he studied numerous works completely such as al-Akhdari, Ibn Ashir, al-Izziyyah, al-Risalah, Misbah al-Salik, books of Inheritance, Tuhfah al-Hukkam, and is currently studying al-Sharh al-Sagir, Mukhtasar Khalil and it’s famous commentary al-Sharh al-Kabir. Abdus Shakur Brooks also does research concerning various issues of jurisprudence. He currently resides overseas.

SOME OF HIS TEACHERS

Shaykh Ibrihim Ahmad al-Fulani from West Africa:

He memorized the Quran and the major texts of the Maliki mathab. Furthermore, he memorized the text al-Shatibiyyah, texts of Arabic grammar such as The Allifiyyah of Ibn Malik and ancient poetry such as al-Mu’allaqat and others. He also holds an ijazah in Tafseer Jalalain and the seven variant readings of the Quran.

Shaykh Wafiq Al-Hijizi from Lebanon:

He acquired his early knowledge from Mahad al-Fath in Syria. After graduating from there, he was taken into the houses of the elderly scholars and given private lessons in the fields of fiqh, logic, and aqidah. He then traveled to Cairo and obtained a doctors degree from Azhar University in shari’ah.

Sidi Ahmad Ibn Aqil from Yemen:

He is from The Haba’ib of Tarim and the representative of The Haba’ib in Cairo. He teaches aqidah, usool, and Shafi fiqh and other books taught at Darul-Mustafa.

Ustadth Mustafa Al-Kurdi from Turkey:

He is from the eastern regions of Turkey where some traditional Ottoman schools still exist until today. They focus mainly on mastering Arabic morphology and grammar, as well as Shafi fiqh and aqidah. He was a student in these schools for twelve years receiving an ijazah before traveling to Cairo.
